National Night Out will offer a space for community in Fitchburg and Leominster Tuesday evening.
From 4 to 7 p.m. in Leominster, residents can stop by Watermill Apartments on 142 Water Street for food, activities and vendors.
In Fitchburg, people can join the night of family programming from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Lowe Park on 174 Elm St. for an event hosted by four community organizations -- ReImagine North of Main, NewVue Communities, the Fitchburg Police Department and My CARE Initiative.
The events, originally started by the National Association of Town Watch, encourage community and police relationships, according to Meredith Geraghty at NewVue Communities.
Geraghty, also one of Fitchburg event's programmers, said the evening at Lowe Park will include entertainment -- like a storyteller and African drums -- interspersed with safety presentations.
Visitors can eat free sandwiches and, before 6:30 p.m., submit artwork to a contest run by Walgreens. Ten pieces picked by the pharmacy and other judges will hang for the next year in the Walgreens on 571 John Fitch Highway.
Geraghty said she hopes the event, now in its second year, will bring people to the north of Main Street neighborhood.
"It's a neighborhood on the rise," she said.
